Using a Blow Dryer to Add Volume

For people looking to boost the volume and style of their hair, a blow dryer can be a game-changer. With the right techniques and products, you can achieve a fuller, more voluminous look that lasts throughout the day. Read on to learn how to best use a blowdryer to achieve a flawless, fresh out of the barbershop look.

step 1: start with clean, towel-dried hair

Begin by washing your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner to remove any excess oil and build-up. The Suavecito OG Shampoo & OG Conditioner have nourishing coconut and avocado oils that help to add natural hydration to your hair without weighing it down. Before you start blow drying, you’ll want to gently towel-dry your hair until it's slightly damp -  you don’t want to start with dripping wet hair. This will save you time and allow you to get right into styling. If your hair is too wet when you start styling, you’ll spend an unnecessary amount of time getting it dry.

OG Shampoo & Conditioner

  • Shampoo gently cleanses without stripping hair of natural oils
  • Conditioner smooths & hydrates with nourishing avocado and coconut oils
  • Sulfate free
  • Works on all hair types and textures

STEP 2: APPLY A HEAT PROTECTANT

Anytime you apply heat to your hair, you introduce the risk of damage. When hair is exposed to high temperatures, the natural moisture and essential proteins within the hair shaft can be depleted, leading to dryness, brittleness, and breakage over time. The Suavecito Hair Tonic is our new, multi-purpose product that acts as a great heat protectant. It is enriched with Rosemary Leaf and Nettle Leaf extracts that helps create a protective barrier around your hair strands. Spray a few times evenly across your hair and you are ready to turn up the heat!

STEP 3: CHOOSE THE RIGHT BLOW DRYER ATTACHMENT AND WORK IN SECTIONS

Typically a blow dryer will come with a concentrator nozzle attachment. This nozzle helps to direct the airflow precisely, allowing you to control the direction and style of your hair effectively. If you have long and/or curly hair, go for a diffuser attachment. These come with long prongs that reach deep into hair and result in better defined curls and waves.

If you have a stubborn cowlick, you can help tame it by using the blow dryer to “train” your hair in the other direction. Using a brush and the nozzle attachment, brush hair in the opposite direction of the cowlick while also directing airflow that way. Alternate between training hair away from its natural growth pattern and then back toward it to end up with hair in a more neutral position. This may take a bit of effort, but should cut down on styling time with products.

If you have long hair, divide your hair into manageable sections for more precise styling. Start by lifting sections of your hair at the roots and pointing the blow dryer downwards along the shaft of the hair. Then use a brush to pull the hair upwards and away from the scalp to create volume.

When you are just about done working through each section, use the cool shot button on your blow dryer to set the style. Cool air helps to lock in the volume and prevent frizz.

STEP 4: FINISH WITH STYLING PRODUCT

With your hair dried and your desired style achieved, you’ll want to lock in your look with a styling product. This is the finishing touch to ensure you do not lose the volume and style created by using a blow dryer. A great product to complement the Suavecito Hair Tonic would be our Firme Clay Pomade, which will give you a strong hold without adding shine. Grab a small amount and rub it between your palms, then work it through your hair evenly.

Even though your hair should be dry at this point, we recommend using the blow dryer as you work in the Firme Clay. Applying heat at this stage will help to better disperse the product throughout your hair, making it more pliable and easy to work with. The Firme Clay Pomade will add texture and definition while ensuring the hairstyle you created with your blow dryer stays in place all day.
