Day of the Dead - Riverside

Division 9 Gallery & Ballet Folklórico de Riverside present—Riverside Day of the Dead, honoring those whom we have loved and lost, the colorful cultural celebration of Día de los Muertos will come alive once again in historical downtown Riverside, Saturday, November 4, 2017. The 14th annual anniversary of this traditional Mexican festival is held on every first Saturday in November from 1 pm to 10 pm; celebrated with food, art, music, dance and most importantly, the beautifully decorated and personalized altars honoring loved ones that have passed.

Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican cultural event, invoking ancient customs and rituals, celebrating the cycle of life and death with reverence and respect. The origins of this modern Mexican holiday may be traced to indigenous observances dating back hundreds of years including an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. The holiday has since spread throughout the world, and has become a cherished tradition for honoring the dead.

We have known success in our past years by aligning ourselves with the community in mind. This has inspired original creations, from art, music, dance and performance. And this is what will enable our event to maintain the longevity and sustain the true form of tradition which has transpired from Mexico since pre-Colombian times.

It is an honor for us to educate new generations on this vibrant event in historical downtown Riverside. We ask of those who attend our event to please respect our No Alcohol/Smoke‐Free environment, in order for families to express their feelings for those who have passed on.

Thank you.

* This event is a FREE family friendly event, no smoking or alcohol will be allowed. We ask all who attend to please respect this, in order for this event to have longevity in historical downtown Riverside. Doing so allows a family friendly environment for children to attend and be educated through participation.
