Great Gatsby Hair Tutorial

Flappers were young western women in the 1920s who wore short skirts, excessive makeup, listened to jazz and bobbed their hair. As much as society wanted to suppress the new trend, everyone loved the fashion, hair and makeup. Their dresses were straight and loose, leaving the arms bare and dropping the waistline to the hips. At the time, short haircuts such as the Bob and Eton crop haircuts were popular in Vogue. The curled yet short hair was always paired with a hat or extravagant headpiece.

The movie “The Great Gatsby” drew many people in with the luxurious lifestyle and overall look of the era. The classic hairstyle for flappers was a messy curled bob that is extremely easy to achieve! Some tools needed for the look are a 1” curling iron or wand, bobby pins, duck clips, paddle brush, comb, headband, Suavecita Pomade, Suavecita Firm Hold Hairspray, Grooming Spray and dry shampoo. If your hair is shorter than your shoulders you can skip the first step. First take a two-inch section from the nape and make two braids. Loop them to lay them flat against the bottom of your head and pin with bobby pins. This area will be hidden so don't worry about making them look perfect. Now start at the top of the hair and begin curling 1-inch sections toward the face and immediately pin your curl with a duck clip. Do this to all of the hair and immediately spritz with Suavecita Grooming Spray. After letting the hair cool for at least 30 minutes, use your paddle brush and brush out the curls softly. Proceed with running one pump of Suavecita Argan Silkening Serum through your hair from mid band to ends for softening and smoothing any dryness. Sprinkle in some dry shampoo in the crown area and tease. At this point, you’ll see that wonderful, smooth ‘S’ wave that you need. Place the duck clips wherever there is an indentation and let that sit. With your comb start to backcomb the ends of your hair gently to create fullness and volume. Whatever is left and is stringy can be rolled inward and pinned with bobby pins where the braids are. Rub a bit of Suavecita Pomade in your fingertips and smooth wherever is needed. Overall, you will have a round, full and voluminous faux bob! Finish the look with a bit of Suavecita Firm Hold Hairspray and place your headpiece with the design near the bang area.
